Grata è una serie di ritratti fotografici celati da un elemento decorativo realizzato con un comune gioco infantile.
A formare questa decorazione sono dei chiodini in plastica, più comunemente conosciuti colorati, che si innestano sulla fotografia andando a disegnare a ripetizione un pattern ornamentale sotto il quale la figura ritratta viene celata.
Il titolo ne suggerisce il carattere, aprendo un immaginario vicino ad un elemento di confine, di separazione che anche stabilisce i ruoli tra osservato e osservatore. Pensando ad esempio le grate dei confessionali o l’antica tecnica ornamentale islamica lignea i Mashrabiya attraverso il quale chi è all’interno del palazzo può osservare l’esterno senza esser visto. Del dialogo tra questi tre elementi, il titolo, i chiodini come gioco infantile e il ritratto, mi interessa l’aspetto paradossale e ambiguo. Il termine GRATA, che da sostantivo comunica separazione, confine si trasforma pensandolo come aggettivo in persona grata. In maniera simile a come l’elemento ludico del chiodino, diventa una fascinosa e oscura superfice ornamentale che cela il soggetto ritratto.

Grata it is a series of photographic portraits hidden by a decorative element made with a common childhood game.
To form this decoration are plastic small nails, more commonly known colored, which are grafted on the photograph to design, repeating, an ornamental pattern under which the depicted figure is hidden.
The title suggests its character, opening an imaginary close to a boundary element of separation that also establishes the roles between who observers and who is observed. Thinking for example the grates of the confessional or the ancient wooden Islamic ornamental technique the Mashrabiya through which those inside the building can observe the outside without being seen. I am interested in the paradoxical and ambiguous aspect of the dialogue between these three elements, the title, the little nails as a childhood game and the portrait. In Italian, the term GRATA, as a noun communicates separation or boundary, is transformed by thinking of it as an adjective in grateful person. In a similar way to how the ludic element of the nail, it becomes a fascinating and obscure ornamental surface that hides the portrait subject.
